Hearts of Men began delivering community development services and youth interventions within Cape Town in 2001 and was established as a non-profit organization in 2003.  It was founded by Nic Fine, Des Van Niekerk and Lionel Arnolds, and they were joined on the first Management Board by Fairuz Davids and Arthur Benjamin.

The project was initially piloted with funding from Cordaid (Netherlands) in association with Usiko, a South African based NGO.

Operations started in Bonteheuwel, moved on to Strand, Kenilworth and the South Peninsula (Ottery East, Grassy Park & Lotus River).

Hearts of Men is currently busy in three regions namely Overberg, Helderberg and Langeberg in the Western Cape and Boland.

By the end of 2011 Hearts Of Men will have delivered 42 programmes within 17 different communities. The majority of these

(36 programmes) have been 12 months in duration, with the minimum intervention being 6 months (4 programmes).
